"I want to know what nights I'm going to be able to sleep and what nights I'm not going to be sleep," Sarah Shapiro said at a recent meeting. "The anxiety is killing me."
Overnight construction is done Monday to Thursday from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Deputy Town Supervisor Adam Brodsky said construction is being done overnight to minimize disruption to the community.
"We're trying to strike a balance," Brodsky said. "We need to maintain the hamlet. There are thousands of cars throughout the day and there's a middle school. It makes it too difficult to do it during the daytime.
In response to the noise, Brodsky said they have relocated some of the construction stages to try to isolate the equipment.
"We're trying to reach a balancing act," Brodsky said.
Brodsky said he expects heavy construction to be finished in May with construction being completed next November.
The $11.6 million project is designed to improve the infrastructure in downtown Chappaqua and will replace aging water and sewer mains.
The improved infrastructure will make the hamlet more attractive to downtown tenants, town officials have said.
