CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. - Chappaqua Volunteer Ambulance Corps is looking to add to its team of volunteers by holding two open houses aimed at Youth Corps recruiting.
The kids get really motivated by their responsibilities and feel a great sense of pride in helping out their community," said Brendan Dymes, Youth Corps leader. "Its truly a win-win.
The open houses will take place on March 13 and March 20 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Students interested in attending must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and be 16-years-old by the fall of 2012.
Youth Corps members will be tasked with performing inventory and ambulance checks every Tuesday night. Responsibilities of the position also include making sure the ambulances are running properly and all kits and compartments are fully stocked.
Youth Corps members also assist EMTs and paramedics when out on calls. The volunteers may handle specific kits, including trauma and oxygen bags, and take out the stretcher when necessary.
"It gives me exposure to situations that you can't gain anywhere else," said current volunteer Hailey Rosenthal. "I love the level of responsibility the adults give us, it's hard to come by at my age. It's a great learning experience and when I go out on calls it definitely gives me an adrenaline rush."
Student must register to volunteer by April 1 and additional information is available on CVAC's website .
