Michael Davoli, of the Cancer Action Network, said the move by the Westchester County Board of Legislators will protect residents from second-hand exposure to nicotine and “other potentially harmful chemicals.”
It will also strengthen enforcement of existing smoke-free laws, Davoli said, urging County Executive Robert Astorino to sign the legislation into law.
Sales of e-cigarettes have soared, Davoli said, adding that usage among high school students tripled nationally from 2011-13. The public health law is currently in effect in New York City along with Suffolk, Cattaraugus, Erie and Tompkins counties, he said.
