The sightings occurred in the vicinity of Bedford Road (between Whippoorwill Road and Annandale Drive) and also on Barnes Road, the New Castle Police reported early Sunday afternoon.

Sightings were reported late last week in Ossining as well as on the border of Mount Kisco and Bedford. In mid-May, a bear was spotted in the Hudson River near the Charles Point Marina in Peekskill before proceeding to swim toward, perhaps appropriately, Bear Mountain.

The New York Department of Environmental Conservation advises that bears will only be encouraged to leave the area unless the bear creates a public disturbance, acts aggressively towards a human or a pet, attempts to enter a home, or is injured and cannot move freely to escape, New Castle Police said.
