Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark and the DEA announced on Monday that 16 people have been charged with drug trafficking “in a scheme that peddled drugs on the streets as well as delivering them to buyers on demand” throughout the tri-state area.

Clark said that four of the suspects are charged with operating as a major trafficker and will face life in prison if convicted. The others have been charged with varying degrees of criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal sale of a controlled substance, money laundering and conspiracy.

The arrests come following a six-month wiretap investigation by the Bronx District Attorney’s Special Investigations Bureau and the DEA’s Strike Force, which found that narcotics were imported from Florida for distribution in the Bronx, Manhattan, Westchester and New Jersey.

Ten kilograms of fentanyl and two kilograms of heroin was seized on Nov. 7 during an alleged drug deal. During the drug seizure, officials said that a subject jumped out of a second-story window in Manhattan with more than $30,000 cash on him.

During another sting, law enforcement officials seized 12 kilograms of Fentanyl, several kilograms of heroin, cocaine and crack cocaine. More than $175,000 cash and two vehicles were also seized.

Eleven of the suspects are currently in custody after being busted on Nov. 15. The others are awaiting extradition to New York from Florida and New Jersey. They are due in court later this year to answer the charges against them.
