Why Northern Westchester?

The following is a Letter to the Editor written by David Berman of Somers, NY.

In this time of a poor economy, I often ask myself “Why did I move to Northern Westchester?” My friends are in New York City, even my son lives in Staten Island. So why did I move to Westchester? The answer is simple – for the excellent Quality of Life! I enjoy the quiet, slow paced life style. I enjoy the open spaces. I enjoy the excellent schools, which impacts positively on my property value (even in this rough economy). I enjoy and need the excellent medical facilities. My preference for the quality of life that Westchester residents enjoy is greatly impacted by the quality of our elected officials. County Legislator Mike Kaplowitz is unique. As a fiscal conservative he has led the fight for a reasonable tax structure. Mike Kaplowitz understands that, even in rough economic times, we must maintain the quality of life that we all enjoy. Mike Kaplowitz has: Stabilized county taxes by cutting county tax levy by 2 percent. Slashed county spending by $30 million. Saved Westchester Medical Center by restructuring its spending and debt. The list of Mike Kaplowitz’s accomplishments is a testament to his proven record as a fiscal conservative while working to maintain our quality of life in Westchester. There is a direct correlation between the reasons why I moved to Westchester and why I am supporting Mike Kaplowitz for re-election to the County Legislature. We need Mike Kaplowitz fighting to maintain our quality of life within the boundaries of fiscal responsibility. David Berman Somers, NY
