CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. – More than a dozen local residents had plenty of recommendations in response to a recent Chappaqua Daily Voice Facebook question that asked if there were any places in town that need new sidewalks or sidewalk repairs.
Chief among them seemed to be King Street.
“The sidewalk in front of my store is beyond in need. It is impossible to walk and has been neglected, as have most of the sidewalks in towns,” said Desires By Mikolay owner Tara Mikolay.
Mikolay’s storefront resides at 55 King Street.
“There was a great plan for sidewalk repair and bump-outs that would transform the town to a more pedestrian friendly vibe and beautify our town. What happened to that?” she added.
Dawn Greenberg, owner of Aurora gift shop at 1 King Street, agreed, saying “Those in downtown need major repair.”
Donn Sozynski-Lauter echoed Mikolay and Greenberg’s observations, while also adding a vision for a solution.
“The sidewalks and curbs in town need to look the same. The repairing and patching make it look shabby,” she said. “The town would look quaint with some flowers and plants incorporated also. The bridge was a great start, along with pocket parks.”
Other sidewalk areas of concern brought up by residents on Facebook included Douglas Road, Gedney Park, Routes 133 and 120, and Bedford Road from King Street to South Greeley Avenue.
