Pleasantville Police Investigates Jewelry Robbery

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – More than $8,000 worth of jewelry was stolen from Twin Jewelers in Pleasantville late Tuesday morning in a snatch-and-run robbery, police said.

Evan Fox, owner of Twin Jewelers, said the man stole two engagement rings.

“He was interested in seeing higher-end jewelry and he knew what he was doing,” Fox said.

The Pleasantville Police Department confirmed the robbery occurred but would not comment further as the investigation is ongoing and no arrest has been made. The Mount Pleasant Police Department and the Westchester County Police also responded to the call.

Two females were working at the jewelry store on Wheeler Avenue when the robbery occurred. Employees said the man asked to see multiple engagement rings in the store’s display cases and frequently asked for the price of the rings before grabbing two from the worker’s hands and running out of the door and up Wheeler Avenue towards the Pleasantville Police Station. No visible weapons were present.

Fox described the man as an African American in his 50s with a hunched back. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a sweatshirt and baseball cap. The suspect was also wearing glasses in which the lenses changed from clear to shaded depending on the light.

A security camera is present in Twin Jewelers, yet Fox said he is considering increasing his store’s security.

“I’m going to look into making it more visible to those that enter the store that they are being watched,” Fox said.

Fox has owned Twin Jewelers in Pleasantville for the past four years. This is the first robbery he has experienced.
