MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. - - Marilyn Erazo has returned home.

The Mount Kisco native, who graduated from Fox Lane High School in 2010, is working at Northern Westchester Hospital as an intern, doing a three-month rotation in hospital administration.

Erazo, who moved to Mount Kisco when she was two, said the internship allows her to get a firsthand look at working in hospital administration.

"I requested this rotation," Erazo, who is working as an administrative fellow for Northwell Health, which runs Northern Westchester, said. "I really wanted to come back. I want to see what the hospital is doing and have an impact."

Erazo, whose parents are immigrants from Guatemala, said she wanted to make sure the immigrant community has a voice at the hospital.

"It was nice to hear conversations where their perspective is being brought up," Erazo said.

Interning at Northern Westchester opened Erazo's eyes to see how many different programs and departments the hospital has, from a cancer center to departments dedicated to mothers and babies.

"There are different aspects you don't see or hear about until you delve into it," Erazo said.

Erazo initially wanted to be a doctor but later realized it wasn't for her and soon went into social work and later discovered hospital administration. She said she wants to give a voice to the underrepresented population.

"I need to make sure their perspective is considered and heard," Erazo said. "The most important thing in my life is how I can help people."

Having seen different hospitals of all shapes and sizes, Erazo said she likes the community atmosphere of Northern Westchester.

"There's a family feeling in a smaller hospital," Erazo said. "You know everybody."

Erazo said Northern Westchester Hospitals is one of the most well-run hospitals she's seen.

"The leadership has developed such a great team around them," Erazo said. "There's a great culture here. Every single part of a person's life is the focal point. "
