CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. - John M. Tinnon, formerly of Chappaqua, died Dec. 1 at Danbury Hospital after a brief illness. He was 94.
He was born Aug. 10, 1917, the eldest son of Edwine Munroe Tinnon and John Baird Tinnon. In 1939, Tinnon graduated from Haverford College with a bachelor's degree in engineering. He then served in the Navy during World War II, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade.
Most recently of Redding, Conn., he married Charline B. Tinnon on Dec. 20, 1941. He enjoyed a successful career with Air Reduction Company, Air Products and Chemicals and Fabricated Plastics, where he retired as president in 1982.
A longtime member of Mt. Kisco Country Club, Tinnon was honored as "Man of the Centuries" in 2007. He pursued his passion for gardening as a member of the Chappaqua Garden Club and later at Meadow Ridge in Redding as head of the Grounds Committee,
Tinnon was active for many years in the First Congregational Church of Chappaqua and would love to sing "O Holy Night" at Christmastime with the choir.
He is survived by his wife Charline, his daughters Susan (John) Dunham of West Hartford, Conn. and Jean (David) Smith of EL Dorado, Calif., his brother Edwin Tinnon of Columbus, N.C. and a granddaughter. He was predeceased by his brother William Tinnon.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 17 at the First Congregational Church of Chappaqua.
