Emily's Sweetheart Stand Supports Children's Cancer Center

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Hastings' Emily Cartwright is a budding businesswoman with more than profit as her goal, selling homemade baked goods and drinks at her home-based Sweetheart Stand to raise money to help fight cancer.

Young Emily, who opened for business earlier this week and will be open again next on Saturday, has partnered with her father Scott Cartwright in building her place of business. Proceeds from the sales are going to the Maria Fareri Children's Hospital at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla.

Emily, who was treated successfully at Maria Fereri in the past, said she "wants to help the kids who aren't as lucky and need extra healing." Scott Cartwright built the portable Sweetheart Stand, which is set up at 45 Hillside Ave. in Hastings. Emily's father has also pitched in with the baking chores. He said Emily has been excited and pleased that customers have come by to help support her cause. "Emily has loved baking since she was very young," Scott Cartwright said. "We've been out twice this week and already raised more than $100 to donate to Maria Fereri." Everything sold at the Sweetheart Stand is fresh and homemade by Emily - down to the pitted fresh cherries for mini pies, cupcakes, brownies and freshly squeezed lemonade.  "Emily really wanted to do this," Cartwright said. "We'll be out there Saturday and we'd love for people to come by and contribute." The Sweetheart Stand will be open for business Saturday from noon until 5 p.m. or until stock is sold out. Shoppers are encouraged to visit and help support Emily's cause.
