CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. -- Horace Greeley High School alumnus Rachel Goldsmith is partnering with the Fabergé Big Egg Hunt.

The fund-raising initiative features more than 250 large egg sculptures -- each designed by globally renowned artists, designers and creatives -- placed throughout New York City’s five boroughs from April 1-26.

According to the Big Egg Hunt website, the event raises money for children in New York City through Studio in a School, and conservation efforts through Elephant Family, saving the endangered Asian elephant and its habitat.

Goldsmith is a Brooklyn-based artist who works primarily with water-based paints on canvas or permanent inks on paper. She received her masters of art and design education degree from Pratt Institute in 2007 and her bachelor of fine arts degree from The University of Michigan in 2003, representatives said.

"Most recently people have commented that her artwork exemplifies her persona: energetic yet peaceful, playful and imaginative yet sophisticated," representatives said. "Ms. Goldsmith draws her inspiration from her surroundings. The scientific, almost stringent and exact, aspects of the environment are reflected in her obsessive attention to detail. These details are added through a very controlled use of materials. In contrast, the spontaneous aspects of nature are present in the organic and fluid aliveness of her compositions."

Goldsmith’s egg is "Ova Obsessive," and "conveys the compulsive quality of her artistry through the repetition of very small circles and dots drawn with Sakura archival ink," representatives said.

Limited edition miniature eggs and other merchandise will be available for purchase at The Big Egg Hunt website .
