CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. Chappaqua resident and boxing historian Bert Sugar will be remembered with a funeral and memorial service at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 31, at the First Congregational Church of Chappaqua.
Sugar, who had been battling lung cancer, died Sunday, March 25, of cardiac arrest at Northern Westchester Hospital. He was 75.
Sugar was elected into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2005 and is remembered for his longtime work with Boxing Illustrated, The Ring and ESPN, and as the author of more than 80 books.
Sugar, who was rarely seen without his trademark fedora and cigar, also appeared in the films "Night and the City," "The Great White Hype" and "Rocky Balboa."
