Chappaqua Resident To Dance With The Stars For Charity

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. – Chappaqua’s Robin Murphy will be one of eight people taking to the stage in October when Hillside Food Outreach returns with its fourth annual "Dancing With Our Stars" competition.

The nonprofit food pantry has offices in Westchester, Putnam and Fairfield counties, and has home-delivered meals to more than 2,000 families in need. Murphy said she has volunteered with the organization, which is where she got to know the organization’s executive director, Kathleen Purdy.

“She asked me if I would be a dancer,” Murphy said. “When she called me, I thought, ‘What, is she joking?’ I can’t even walk straight, forget about dance. But it’s a really great opportunity.”

Murphy will compete against Anne Joyce, Diane Disher, Faith Butcher, Bill Starbucks, George Oros, George Mulvaney and Gerald McKinstry. The winner will be determined by crowd voting.

“It’s a great group of people,” Murphy said. “I think it’s going to be a little competitive.”

The competition will be held Oct. 6 in the Matrix Conference & Banquet Center in Danbury, Conn. To prepare for the competition, Murphy said, she has been practicing one to three times a week for a few months.

“It’s a great opportunity for me, too,” she said. “I’m learning something that I never, ever, ever expected to, and never thought it would be nearly as much fun as it is.”

Tickets range from $45 to $100 and go on sale Saturday. They can be purchased by calling 914-747-0095 or visiting www.HillsideFoodOutreach.org. All proceeds will benefit Hillside Food Outreach.

“They’re a great organization,” Murphy said. “It’s the quintessential neighbors helping neighbors.”
