Chappaqua Merchants Excited for Pastry, Shoe Shops

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. - Residents worrying about vacant storefronts in Chappaqua turning into nail salons can relax. The hamlet's two newest stores will be pastry and shoe shops called Sherry B Dessert Studio and Step in Style.

The addition of the new shops seemed to be welcome news to fellow store owners in Chappaqua who were hoping to see more variety among the local businesses.

“I’m so psyched. Anything is good, but a sweet shop can definitely benefit us,” said Aurora owner Dawn Greenberg. “The shoe shop seems to be needed and people are excited.”

Many residents and storeowners were critical when Serenity Spa opened on lower King Street in December, leaving three nail salons in a small geographical area.

Residents have noticed the construction at 65 King St. in recent weeks, and have been looking forward to peeking inside and seeing what kind of shop is sprouting inside the walls.  While no official timetable has been given for when the store will open with its' delectable morsels, its website hints at a spring opening.

The owner of the store is Chappaqua resident Sherry Blockinger. “I've known Sherry for a long time and she has fantastic taste and style and I'm sure her shop is going to be wonderful," said Marmalade owner Cindy Lupica.

According to Greenberg, the owner of the shoe store is Brewster resident Licia Mikulicic, who is aiming for a March 24 opening. Mikulicic previously worked for Barneys New York, a luxury clothing and shoe store. “She knows what she’s doing,” said Greenberg.

The store is expected to be located behind the Salon 228 building at 26 South Greeley Ave. The stores will join King Street Restaurant and Bar, which is currently hiring staff, as new additions to the local scene in 2012.
