Chappaqua Duo Will Put New Life Into Your Wardrobe

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. – Lisa Ballou and Susan Goodman of Chappaqua have been helping each other clean out their closets and repackage their wardrobes for years. But it wasn't until this spring that the best friends realized they had more than just a hobby – they had a business.

“I said, ‘If we don’t do this, somebody else is gonna do it.’ And we love it. It’s fun. So it just sort of happened organically,” says Ballou of their venture, StyleCycle. “We just formed an LLC and made it a real business."

Ballou and Goodman set up one-on-one appointments with clients to revitalize their wardrobes. The first step is to clean out the client’s closet and take unwanted items to consignment. Next, the two restyle what’s left, remixing clothes and accessories in a new way.

“It’s like, ‘I spend all this money on clothes, but I feel like I have nothing to wear,’ ” Ballou says. “It’s like looking in the fridge and seeing nothing to eat.”

Ballou says she and Goodman typically create anywhere from 30 to 70 new outfits for their clients and record them in a lookbook. If necessary, they will purchase missing pieces to bring some of the outfits together.

While clients may end up buying new items, Ballou says, the essential idea of StyleCycle helps people save money by making them see they have more in their closets than they realize.

“Sometimes people think they have nothing to wear, so they just keep buying and buying,” Ballou says. “So that also helps people to see, ‘You know, you don’t need to buy so much, you just need to buy the right pieces.’ ”

StyleCycle services clients throughout the New York Metro area and is offering special launch rates through May. Email info@Stylecycle.com for rates.
