Omelich Brings Fifth Avenue Fashion to Chappaqua

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y.—Yulia Omelich, a 10-year veteran of Wall Street, took her expertise analyzing retail and consumer goods companies and put it into fashion.

In 2008, during the country’s worst recession since the Great Depression, Omelich created COUTUREDossier – French for high-end fashion files - in Chappaqua with great success.

“We call it the ultimate trading platform of luxury,” Omelich said. “What you can do with securities, you can do with fashion.”

Omelich offers customers three options for their used or unwanted luxury items: sell, spot or swap.

“The client comes in with a Chanel bag and she can’t return it to Chanel,” Omelich said. “She doesn’t like it so we offer her a buyout on the spot. With the financial times the way they are, more people are selling due to financial hardship or to cover medical expenses.”

A customer can also swap the item for another in the store of similar price or sell it and receive 60% of the sale when the item is purchased.

“This is the new way of shopping,” Omelich said. “Consignment is so Nineteenth century.”

COUTUREDossier has luxurious items from Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Prada and Gucci.

“When you take a stroll on Fifth Avenue, all the flagship stores, you can have them here for 50 percent off retail prices,” Omelich said.

According to Omelich, most of the items in her store were once spotted on celebrities. She has sold Issa dresses like those worn by Kate Middleton.

Omelich has had some distinguished guests at COUTUREDossier in Chappaqua. Rob Thomas and his wife Marisol Maldonado, as well as Victoria’s Secret and Chanel models have been to her boutique on North Bedford Road, she said.

COUTUREDossier was recently invited to be part of a new fashion reality show airing on Bravo this October. Omelich said if the show does well, next year there could be a show exclusively on her boutique.

The boutique was praised in Westchester Magazine’s July 2011 issue, “Best of Westchester 2011” for the best vintage apparel. The Westchester Health and Life Magazine recently named COUTUREDossier best local boutique.

“I thought people wouldn’t get it but they do and it’s spread out like a spider web,” Omelich said. “I’m very proud to be part of it. We’ve been really busy with all these thanks.”
