NWH, Local County Officials Partner To Save A Life With Organ Donation Day

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. -- Northern Westchester Hospital, local governments and the greater Westchester community will partner to save a life through a series of organ donor registrations across the county on Thursday, Oct. 6, in support of LiveOnNY.

Each of the eight locations will be staffed with volunteers from the towns, NWH and LiveOnNY. Organ donor recipients and donor family members will be on hand to share their stories and the impact that organ donation has had on their lives. Nurses from NWH will provide free blood pressure screenings in most locations, while dietitians will be offering healthy snacks at the Armonk location.

On Thursday, Oct. 6, individuals can enroll as an organ donor at the following locations:

  • Northern Westchester Hospital: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., 400 East Main Street, Mt. Kisco
  • Armonk: 10:00 am - 3:00 pm, Armonk Square on Main Street (in front of Chase Bank)
  • Bedford: 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., Bedford Fire Department, 34 Village Green
  • Chappaqua: 11:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m., 26 South Greeley Avenue
  • Mount Kisco: 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., South Moger Avenue (near Starbucks)
  • Pound Ridge: 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., Scotts Corners, 55 Westchester Ave.
  • Somers: Town Hall, 335 Route 202, and The Library, 80 Primrose Route 139

“Organ donation is a second chance at life, and we’re hopeful that on this enrollment day we’ll see a significant increase in registered donors in our area,” said Seligman. “I am grateful to the Town Supervisors and their teams who have embraced this initiative, for our NWH volunteers, the willingness of organ donor recipients and donor family members to share their stories and for the efforts of LiveOnNY.”

New York ranks 50th out of 50 states in the percentage of residents registered as organ donors, and New York ranks third in the country for the number of people waiting for organ transplants, according to LongLiveNY.org

Additionally, according to LiveOnNY, more than 120,000 people in the United States are waiting for organ transplants. Of these, nearly 10,000 live in the greater New York metropolitan area.
