Grateful Dead Alums To Play At Capitol Theatre In April

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. – Grateful Dead icons Phil Lesh and Bob Weir will return to The Capitol Theatre with the jam band Furthur, for an eight-night run in April, the venue announced Friday.

Furthur, named after the 1960s touring bus used by Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters, will take the stage April 16, 17, 19, 20, 21, 23, 24, and 25. In addition to Lesh and Weir, Furthur features Jeff Chimenti of RatDog on keys, lead guitarist John Kadlecik of the Dark Star Orchestra, Drummer Joe Russo of Benevento, as well as back-up vocalists Sunshine Becker and Jeff Pehrson.

"It's no secret that the Grateful Dead loved playing at the Capitol Theatre," said the band's archivist David Lemieux, in a release. The legendary jam band performed at the Cap 18 times in 1970-71 alone. In a recent interview with CBS This Morning, Weir said the Capitol  "was always at the top of the list because we knew we were going to have a good night. That's what we lived for."

Weir played solo at the Capitol Theatre during its re-opening week in September while Phil Lesh & Friends performed a sold-out run at the legendary venue in November.

In a nod to the Grateful Dead’s legacy, The Cap recently hosted a crowd of 1,000 fans for "A Dose of The Dead," in which the theater presented a complete, unreleased concert recorded live at the theater in 1971 Tickets for the April performances are now on sale at The Capitol Theatre website and the Furthur website.

This event will have a general admission standing room only floor and a reserved seated loge and balcony. reserved loge and balcony tickets will not have access to the general admission floor. Admission prices are $65, $95 and $130.

There is a four ticket purchasing limit. Tickets will not be available at The Capitol Theatre box office. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. The Capitol Theatre is at 148 Westchester Ave., Port Chester.
