What To Do In Chappaqua This Week

Monday, Nov. 19

Chappaqua Foreign Policy Discussion Group: 10 a.m. The group will discuss the "U.S. Pivot to Southeast Asia: What Are the Military and Diplomatic Implications?" It will be facilitated by Mal Nechis, who will be joined by guest speaker Maj. Scot Smitson, United States Military Academy, West Point. Chappaqua Library, 195 S. Greeley Ave.

Informal Writing Workshop: 7:30 p.m. Residents are invited to bring short prose, poetry, ideas or simply a desire to write to an evening of supportive feedback with fellow writers. The workshop is led by Joan Schulman and is free and open to the public Register in person or call the reference desk at 914-238-4779. Chappaqua Library, 195 S. Greeley Ave.

Chappaqua Spelling Bee: 7 p.m. Dozens of costumed teams made up of residents, high school students, middle school students, teachers and faculty will compete against each other. Many of the teams are sponsored with a donation from local businesses. The Spelling Bee benefits the Horace Greeley Scholarship Fund, and more than $15,000 was raised from 2011's spelling bee. 70 Roaring Brook Road.

Tuesday, Nov. 20

Open Book Discussion: 7:30 p.m. Christine Bobkoff, an adjunct professor at Westchester Community College, will lead a discussion of "The Orphan Master's Son" by Adam Johnson. The event is free and open to the public. Chappaqua Library, 195 S. Greeley Ave. 

New Castle Town Board: 7:45 p.m. New Castle Town Hall, 200 S. Greeley Ave. 

Wednesday, Nov. 21

Library closes early: The Chappaqua Library closes at 5 p.m. for Thanksgiving. The library will re-open Friday at 9 a.m.

Thursday, Nov. 22

Thanksgiving: All Chappaqua schools and town offices will be closed for the holiday.
