That, after all, that was the plan when Aurora owner Dawn Greenberg began to put the inaugural Chappaqua Children’s Book Festival together in March. Six months later, the event is right on schedule for Saturday, Oct. 5 – and expectations are bigger than ever. Greenberg said she expects anywhere from 3,000 to 5,000 visitors.
“It’s taken hours of volunteer time, but we think we’re ready,” Greenberg said. We are doing this for the children in this and surrounding towns but my stated goal from the very first day was to shine a light on Chappaqua and to bring us the kind of festival that Pleasantville and Armonk have.”
The festival will open at 10 a.m. at Bell Middle School at 50 Senter St. The admission is free and there will be more than 60 authors in attendance, several of which plan to give readings and sign their books:
- 10:30-11 a.m.: Alan Katz
- 11:15-11:45 a.m.: Charise Mericle Harper
- Noon-12:30 p.m.: Jerry Craft
- 12:45–1:15 p.m.: Nick Bruel
- 1:30-2 p.m.: Jean Van Leeuwen
- 2:15–2:45 p.m.: Gloria Pinkney
There will also be food available for purchase from Good Dish, including some fun literary-themed lunches. In addition, the Great Chappaqua Bake Sale will have tons of desserts and treats, with all proceeds going towards Share Our Strength’s Bake Sale to raise money to help feed hungry children.
Victoria Kann, author of the famous Pinkalicious series, will be at the bake sale to read one of her books and do a fun, Pinkalicious cupcake craft from 1-2 pm. The Festival will also be hosting music, games, crafts and sponsored activities throughout the day.
