WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Those who may find it too hard to get to Washington, DC or NYC this weekend for the March on Washington and other events have a local alternative.

WESPAC, a peace and justice action network, has scheduled a solidarity march with the coordinating efforts of a White Plains resident and her husband.

The march and rally will take place in downtown White Plains on Saturday, Jan. 21 from noon to 2 p.m. at the fountain (intersection of Main Street and Mamaroneck Avenue).

They will provide signs. Artists and musicians are welcome and encouraged to participate. Contact Laurie at sylvieetal@aol.com for more information or see the Eventbrite link HERE.

According to the WESPAC website, the organization, in operation since 1974, is a leading force for progressive social change in Westchester County, educating, agitating and organizing for a more just and peaceful world, an end to militarism and racism and a more fair economy that works for all.

White Plains resident Laurie Rigelhaupt said she, like many, is upset and worried about what our new president will do. "Any business model is unsuited for governing a large, diverse country, but Trump's is especially dangerous," she said.

"The idea that he intends to keep people and nations deliberately off-balance and unsure of what he will do, will cause a frightening instability at every level. A president who contradicts himself constantly, whose words cannot be trusted, will create chaos within the U.S. and around the world. A man who is steeped in the world of show business, who thrives on its petty intrigues, is not presidential material. But, unfortunately, he is our president and our problem."

It's why she and her husband, Alex Zackrone, felt it was important to organize something locally. Said Rigelhaupt: "With the help of Nada Khader and WESPAC, we will do our best."
