CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. – Blue skies and warm weather welcomed one of the Chappaqua's longest traditions Saturday with the return of the Rotary Club-organized Community Day.

The event ran from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Chappaqua train station and featured rides for children, games, entertainment, food, free books from the library and information about services available to the community. Many of the rides were sponsored by local community businesses.

“It's a time for local vendors and community organizations to come together and celebrate as a community,” said Library Director Pamela Thornton, who is also a Rotary Club member.

The upcoming election season also brought out local politicians, including County Legislator Mike Kaplowitz (D-Somers), Assembly member Robert Castelli (R-Goldens Bridge), and New Castle's own Town Justice David Zuckerman.

"It's such a great town event," said Zuckerman, who is running for the position of Westchester County Court Judge.

There was also a blood drive, and the Westchester County clerk's office sent a mobile passport unit to accept passport applications and help members of the community obtain passports.

Thornton said all the proceeds from the day will be used to fund local nonprofit organizations.
