The market will continue weekly through Nov. 21. The market is from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine.

It has more than 20 independent businesses and farm stands, and its offerings include farm fresh produce, including organic options, award-winning cheeses, imported spices, olive oils, maple syrup, honey, baked goods, pickled items and freshly cut flowers.

There also will be farm-raised, hormone and antibiotic-free poultry, pork, chicken, eggs and grass-fed beef available.

“Market Stage Live,” continues its second year featuring performances from local musicians, lessons from top local chefs, author readings and demonstrations with fitness and health practitioners.

“We are proud of our Farmers Market history and look forward to our newly expanded market which provides healthy eating options and tasty indulgences, supports small businesses and local farmers and draws people into downtown Peekskill to experience our restaurants, artists, local history and shops,” said Louie Lanza, the president of the Peekskill Business Improvement District, which oversees the market.

The market's opening day coincides with Peekskill Open Studios, which will be from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. It will have more than 40 artist studios, venues, galleries and special performances making for an “art-full” weekend.

In conjunction with this two-day citywide event, performance artist Cat-in-the-Moon (a.k.a. Karen Marie Marmer) will present a colorful, interactive performance art piece entitled “Scribble” from 1 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the market.
