Criminal law typically treats minors differently from adults, except for New York and North Carolina. Both states prosecute youths 16 or older as adults.
Allison Lake, deputy director of the Westchester Children’s Association, and Lisa Freeman, director of the special litigation and law reform unit, Juvenile Rights Practice, The Legal Aid Society of New York, will lead a forum offering an overview of the current laws and research information about adolescent brain development and the effects of children being tried as adults.
The community is invited to attend and raise questions regarding the issue.
The forum starts at 7 p.m. Coffee and refreshments will be available.
