A man was injured after being struck by an LIRR train.

The incident happened around 11:30 p.m., Sunday, June 21, in Suffolk County at the Lowell Avenue railroad crossing at the Central Islip station, said Aaron Donovan, deputy communications director for Metro-North.

The unidentified man was airlifted conscious and alert to Stony Brook Hospital, Donovan said.

The incident is under investigation.
