On Monday, the Board of Education announced that longtime Mount Vernon resident Lesly Zamor, who has served as a member since 2015, will replace outgoing President Adriane G. Saunders, who will serve as his right hand as  the new Vice President.

According to Zamor, he has a “broad knowledge of the complex issues that face (Mount Vernon) and the school district to provide a useful perspective as president.”

“I’m a visionary who has a track record of bringing people together to get things done. I am very hands on and I understand what it takes to move a large organization such as the schools, so I take this appointment very seriously,” he said. “The revitalization of the school district will reignite the city of Mount Vernon, marking a ‘rebirth’ of ‘the shinty city on the hill.’”

Zamor has been a prominent figure around Mount Vernon since moving there more than a decade ago, having served as a Commissioner of the Mount Vernon Planning Board and President of the Chester Hill Park Neighborhood Association.

“Along with the help of my fellow trustees, a remarkable superintendent and his steadfast cabinet, I plan to be a champion of the new direction for our schools,” he added. “Every family should know, that this time around, we mean business.

“To borrow a phrase from the U.S. Post Office, ‘Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night stays this board of trustees and its administration from realizing this big turn around of our district.’”
