Everton A. Johnson was 18 and attending Rutherford High School during the alleged relationship, which authorities said lasted from March to May as the girl turned from 13 to 14.

She told a guidance counselor at Alfred S. Faust Middle School in East Rutherford who then contacted local police, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said at the time.

Investigators from his Special Victims Unit and East Rutherford police then interviewed the girl, he said.

“During that interview, the victim disclosed in specific details what had occurred between her and [Johnson]” in Rutherford, Molinelli said.

Johnson already was awaiting court action in connection with the April 22 theft of a cellphone from a hallway outside the high school weight room. Police said they found him carrying marijuana, for which he was also charged.

Johnson, who also was indicted on charges of impairing the girl’s morals, remained held on $50,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail in connection with the alleged sex offenses.
