K-4 students will receive standard-based report cards for the first time, the Ridgefield Park BOE announced earlier this month.

What's more, all K-6 students will get progress reports three times a year instead of four, the board said.

Quarterly assessments do not give teachers enough time to be abel to understand each students' weaknesses, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Joseph Neubert told northjersey.com.

Trimesters will allow teachers to report "more meaningful information" to parents, Neubert told the newspaper.

Students who are still struggling will continue to receive progress reports as needed, Schools Supt. Eric Koenig said.

"So if your child is struggling, you can count on a teacher reaching out to let you know that," Koenig told northjersey.com. "It forces to teacher to reach out to you as soon as a problem is identified."
