The Cookery Takes Advantage of Restaurant Week

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Hudson Valley Restaurant Week is here and local places like The Cookery in Dobbs Ferry are offering a special taste of what they have to offer.

“The difference is that we have additional specials that are incorporated into the menu,” said Bjorn Van Wyngaardt, the special events and catering manager at The Cookery. “We add a lot more to our menu.”

Van Wyngaardt said the special event has definitely brought extra customers into the three-year-old restaurant.

“Our lunch has been crazy,” Van Wyngaardt said. “It’s definitely a lot busier for restaurant week than it normally would be on a regular day. On a regular day it’s give or take.”

The fine dining celebration, which runs from March 18 to March 31, offers fixed prices at participating restaurants with a three-course dinner for $29.95 or a three-course lunch for $20.95 per person.

Of everything on the menu at The Cookery, Van Wyngaardt recommends the Osso Bucco for anyone looking to get their money’s worth.

“It’s quite a big meal,” Van Wyngaardt said. “I call it the Flintstone dinner.”

According to the restaurant week website, local restaurants participating include La Catena in Ardsley, Cedar Street Grill, Half Moon, Harper’s Restaurant and Bar and Scaramella’s Ristorante in Dobbs Ferry. Hastings will be represented by Harvest on Hudson and the Rainwater Grill.

Word of mouth seems to be the best kind of business local eateries can generate by participating in restaurant week.

“We did it the first time and it was quite a huge success so we decided to continue because what one restaurant does everyone else does,” Van Wyngaardt said of The Cookery’s decision to participate for the third straight year.

It seems to be working too, as local resident Alton Frisbie made sure to bring several of her friends out to try one of her favorite restaurants on Thursday afternoon.

“I’ve been here a million times, I love it,” Frisbie said.
