Domestic violence is a serious crime that each year affects more than four million Americans of all races, ages, gender and income levels. One in three Americans has witnessed an incident of domestic violence.

On Tuesday, Oct. 28, members of the Westport Domestic Violence Task Force tied purple ribbons along Main Street and the Police Department will be handing out flyers at the train stations in an effort to help raise awareness of this vital issue. Residents and town employees are encouraged to wear purple on Thursday, Oct. 30, to demonstrate support.

Marpe added, “These activities provide an opportunity for citizens to learn more about preventing domestic violence and to show support for the numerous organizations who provide critical advocacy, services and assistance to victims.”

Residents interested in becoming involved in the Westport Domestic Violence Task Force should contact the chairperson, Elizabeth Marks Juviler, at westportdvtf@gmail.com
