Hastings Locals Can Still Have Debris Hauled Away

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – Hastings residents looking to rid themselves of any storm debris left over in their yards can still have it hauled away by the village before the deadline arrives.

“Homeowners have until Dec. 14 to bring it to the curb,” said Village Manager Fran Frobel.  “After that they’re going to have to call and schedule it and we’ll get to it as soon as we can.”

With many tree branches still down and lying around from previous storms, residents are encouraged to get rid of this debris by simply dragging it to their curb.

“There has been a moratorium on the requirement that such material be tied in bundles and placed neatly at curbside because of the October storm,” the village said in a message to residents.

The money spent to clean up the village has run over $40,000 after the storm and an extra $8,000 in recent cleanup efforts, according to Frobel.

“We’re still picking up debris and we have to pay to dispose of that. I think just under $50,000 total cost would be pretty accurate,” he said.

Winter weather is likely to put a burden on Hastings so the village has asked that residents dispose of the remaining debris while continuing to prepare for the next storm.

Wednesday, Dec. 14 is the deadline for residents to leave debris on their curbside and have it taken away by the Department of Public Works. More information can be found on the Hastings village website.
