Fairfield Native Leaps Into Reality TV Ring

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Few things intimidate Chris Guerra. After all, Guerra is a police officer in his hometown of Victoria, Tex., and a big man in his own right. But when faced with all 7 feet and 325 pounds of Fairfield native Matt Morgan, Guerra at least wanted his new wrestling coach to know that he wasn’t playing around.

“I was constantly trying to be on my best behavior,” Guerra said. “Just so that he knew I was taking the task seriously.”

Morgan, once a football and basketball standout at Fairfield High School, is currently a professional wrestler with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling under the moniker “The Blueprint.” But later this month he’ll take his talents to a new show, Country Music Television’s “Made.” Morgan will be the first coach of the adult-oriented update of the former MTV hit, which took teens through intensive training to realize their goals.

Morgan spent six weeks training Guerra so the Texan could see what life is like in the ring. Guerra has been an avid wrestling fan since childhood. But his main reason for jumping in the ring with Morgan is to honor a friend, and fellow wrestling fan, who died two years ago.

Though Morgan cuts an imposing figure, Guerra says he was a caring and considerate coach. Guerra admits that their personalities clashed during the show’s filming, but in the end he says Morgan was a great coach.

“Matt was pretty intense,” Guerra said. “Although he was tough on me at times, I could tell that he really cared about me and wanted to see me succeed.”

What Guerra calls intensity, Morgan would call “focus”—something he had to fight through his life to maintain. Morgan was diagnosed with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder at age 5. Yet he managed to earn his degree from Hawaii’s Chaminade University while playing two sports. Today he is an advocate for Children and Adults with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, a non-profit group that promotes education about the condition.

As Morgan said in a biography video for TNA, “To go from being diagnosed with ADD from age 5 and on, to graduating fifth in your class is something I take a lot of pride in.”

You can watch Guerra and Morgan’s training experiences on the premiere of “Made,” airing Aug. 17 at 10 p.m. on CMT.
