Patient Suspected of Attacking Stamford Nurse

STAMFORD, Conn. — A man kicked a Stamford Hospital nurse in the head and spit blood at her while being treated after police had taken him into custody following a fight at the Discovery Café late Sunday night, police said.

A bouncer at the west side café waved down a police officer on patrol and said Jairo Obed Nino, 28, of Stamford kicked him and punched him after being denied entry to the café, police said. The bouncer told police Nino’s face was bleeding and that is why he didn't let him in, police said.

Seeing the blood on his face, he was taken into custody and to the hospital for treatment, police said.

He also attempted to kick out the back window of the police cruiser while being transported to police headquarters to be charged, police said. Police described Nino as intoxicated at the time of the arrest.

Nino was charged with second-degree breach of peace, assault on emergency personnel, and two counts of assault third degree, police said.

The status of the nurse’s injuries following the incident were not known by police.
