Armonk's Vesuvio Adds 5 Awards to Her Collection

Kayla Vesuvio will need to clear some space in her room following her performance in the eighth annual Armonk Baseball League Memorial Day Classic.  Vesuvio, who is 10 and a fourth-grader at Wampus Elementary School, won five awards in the girls’ softball third- and fourth-grade division at the event, held at the Town of North Castle Community Park.  Vesuvio would later support her older brother, Frank Vesuvio, who was playing in the senior league all-star game. “It was a lot of fun,” Vesuvio said. “I usually put them in my room above my t.v. I did good last year and won a trophy.” She received first-place ribbons for running the bases and winning the all-star game and a trophy for home-run derby. Vesuvio also finished second in throwing and was third in the accuracy throw.  “I liked home run derby because I like hitting,” Vesuvio said. “I hit my first home run in a real game this year.”  Vesuvio displayed her quickness during the running the bases competition.  “That was a lot of fun,” Vesuvio said. “I liked the encouragement when everyone was cheering for me when I was running and when I made it home. I thought I was going really fast!”
