Irvington Students Celebrate Basketball Victory

IRVINGTON, N.Y. – Irvington High School student Colin Lyons is one of many who are ecstatic about the news of the girls basketball team win against Saranac Central on Friday.

“They won last year, so I'm very happy that they won this year too,” Lyons, an 11th-grader, said outside of the high school Friday. When asked whether he thinks the team has a good shot at winning the state title, Lyons said “Oh yeah.”

The Irvington Bulldogs defeated Saranac Central 64-31 in Troy, earning them a spot in the Class B state championship game. The Bulldogs will face South Jefferson in the title game at 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Bryant Benzint, a ninth-grader, said the team's victory was “great.” Benzint also said he felt it happened very fast.

Aly Baron, a 10th-grader, also said the victory was great. She thinks the team has a good shot at winning Saturday's game.

Baron is also proud that it's the girls basketball team who will head to states.

“It's amazing,” Baron said.
