MoMA Lecturer Speaks On Frank Lloyd Wright At Darien Library

DARIEN, Conn. - Marianne Eggler, a gallery lecturer for the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, will give a presentation on “Frank Lloyd Wright and the City: Density vs. Dispersal” on Thursday, May 29, at 7 p.m.

This illustrated lecture at Darien Library, part of the MoMA@Work program at The Museum of Modern Art, will present the work of American architect, designer and visionary, with a focus on the current special exhibition “Frank Lloyd Wright and the City: Density vs. Dispersal.” Attendees an “travel virtually” through this fascinating exhibition and consider Wright’s complex relationship with the American city.

His relationship with new building technologies, stemming from his early work with Chicago architect Louis Sullivan, the “father of the modern skyscraper,” will also be a topic of discussion. “Frank Lloyd Wright and the City: Density vs. Dispersal” will be on view until June 1 at the museum.

Eggler is an art, architecture and design historian who has served as MoMA Gallery Lecturer since 1998. A native New Yorker, she holds a bachelor's in art history from the University of Rochester and did her doctoral studies at the CUNY Graduate Center, where she is completing her dissertation is on the subject of Mies van der Rohe and Lilly Reich’s modern domestic interiors.

She has lectured here and abroad on the subject of art and design and has taught for MoMA’s courses as well as for various other institutions, including Parsons The New School, various CUNY colleges, and SUNY Buffalo State. Eggler is a visiting faculty member at Manhattan College as well as adjunct assistant professor at the Fashion Institute of Technology, SUNY.
