Chappaqua Native Chaudruc Named Artist Of The Month At Somers Library

SOMERS, N.Y. -- Lusandre Lee Chaudruc, a former Chappaqua native, will be the featured artist for the month of March at the Somers Library art gallery.

There will be an artist reception from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, March 14 at the library. 

Chaudruc grew up in Chappaqua and graduated from Western College for Women in Oxford, Ohio with a bachelor of arts in drawing and painting, at which time she also did an intensive with Louise Nevelson. 

While teaching art at Horace Greeley High School, she went to School of Visual Arts and Fashion Institute of Technology. She has headed up a Textile Design Studio for 30 years, creating for names such as Ralph Lauren, Chanel, Jones NY, Wamsutta, Waverly, Raoul Pene faadu Bois, Sesame Street, etc.  

After a summer of studying Photo Graphics at Haystack School of Crafts in Deer Isle, Maine, she entered a show at the Mamaroneck Artists Guild of 600 artists with a photo silkscreen and embossing and was awarded Best of Show by the Director of Design at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. 

Also included in her experience are 10 years of set design and mural painting in various locations, including the Caramoor Music Festival and Faux Finishing in some of the finer homes of Westchester. Lausandre also does private commission work.
