An announcement from a local Girl Scout Troop 1029, which is supporting the event, urges people to visit the Chappaqua firehouse, the Millwood firehouse and/or the Chappaqua Volunteer Ambulance Corps building and to thank those who help.

A promotion for the day names examples of things to bring, such as a donation, cookies or a child's drawing.

The observance time is scheduled to be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event follows New Castle's Memorial Day parade, which was held on Monday in downtown Chappaqua. Responders from each of the three local organizations were represented on Monday.
