Chappaqua Library Will Screen Movie On Plastic Bags And The Environment

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. -- The Chappaqua Library and the New Castle Sustainability Advisory Board are co-sponsoring a screening of the film, "Bag It," on Monday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m. at the Chappaqua Library,

Chappaqua Library will screen "Bag It," a movie that discusses how patrons mindlessly throw away plastic bags.

Americans use 60,000 plastic bags every five minutes—single-use disposable bags that people mindlessly throw away. This single-use mentality has led to the formation of a floating island of plastic debris in the Pacific Ocean more than twice the size of Texas.

The film explores these issues and identifies how daily reliance on plastic threatens not only waterways and marine life, but human health, too. "Bag It" follows “everyman” Jeb Berrier as he navigates a plastic world. Jeb is not a radical environmentalist, but an average American who decides to take a closer look at the cultural love affair with plastics. The screening is free and open to the public.
