Chappaqua Church Hosts Living Cross, Easter Egg Hunt

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. -- Grace Baptist Church invites the community to celebrate Easter and spring by "flowering" its new, 8-foot cross at the corner of King Street and Orchard Ridge Road from Sunday through Easter, April 5. Complimentary flowers are at the foot of the cross, or participants can bring their own.

The goal is to fill the entire cross with vibrant flowers by dusk Easter Sunday in symbolic remembrance of loved ones, if you're troubled by a burden, if you're praying for someone or simply if you are happy spring has finally sprung.

The church also invites the community to a special Easter Sunday worship service at 11 a.m. that will be full of contemporary Christian songs. Parents with children up to age 12 are invited to arrive at 10:30 a.m. for a complimentary Easter egg hunt on the church grounds.

“Spring is a beautiful time in Chappaqua, throughout the Hudson Valley, and it’s a chance to reflect upon the blood shed by God’s Son for our sins and to rejoice in the power of spiritual renewal through the Resurrection of Christ,” said Pastor Larry Holland. “Adorning this cross with vibrant floral life is a symbol that, through belief in Christ, we all can receive a rebirth.”

The living cross and Easter egg hunt are among a slate of 2015 community engagement activities, building upon the success of the church’s 2014 fall festival that featured "American Idol" alumnus Jason Castro and its first original musical, “Let’s Try Christmas.”
