Westchester Business Expo Draws Nearly 2,000 Attendees

RYE BROOK, N.Y. -- Hundreds of business owners and representatives met at the Hilton Westchester Hotel in Rye Brook Thursday for the annual Westchester Business Expo.

Formerly known as the Mega Mixer, the Business Expo was hosted by the Business Council of Westchester and featured more than 180 booths and 1,800 attendees. Business owners were able to network with one another, attend seminars and stop by "Ask the Expert Booths." Marsha Gordon, president and CEO of the Business Council of Westchester, said that the event has grown every year.

"Businesses still recognize that face-to-face interactions and those personal aspects of business still work," she said. "We've amplified digital experiences and amplified social media use, but the opportunity to stand and talk with someone and show them what your business is about is second to none."

"We do this every year," said Anthony Mairo, a marketing executive with New Windsor-based Healthcare News. The publication and website provides coverage of health trends, fitness, medicine, nutrition and other health topics. Mairo said that the Expo allows them to meet new advertisers as well as subscribers. "It's a good opportunity for businesses to get to know each other's services and how they can help each other out."

"I'm having a great time," said Ron Sosinski of Mad Science. The company provides fun science activities and lessons for kids through after-school programs, birthday parties and summer camps. Several experiments were set up at the booth, drawing curious crowds. "It's fun seeing all the adults mystified. They're coming in with lots of questions. It's really helping us with our marketing and getting the word out."

"We think it's fabulous," Michael Murphy of Murphy Brothers Contracting said of the Business Council. The family-owned business is based in Mamaroneck and works on home remodeling, general contracting and construction, and has partnered with companies such as Dow Powerhouse to work on environmentally friendly construction projects. "We're very interested in green construction. Buildnig green is essentially building smart."
