Walmart ran a nation-wide sale for Father's Day advertising 12 packs of Coca-Cola products for $3, but charged $3.50 for the product within New York State, according to the district attorney's statement.

The investigation revealed that when one Buffalo-area customer, after asking about the price discrepancy, was told it was due to a state "sugar tax" that doesn't exist while others were told the sale wasn't honored in New York.

Further investigation revealed that stores reprogrammed cash registers not to recognize the sale price, the district attorney said.

In all, 66,000 12 packs of Coke products were sold to New Yorkers at the inflated price.
