MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. – If you think you’ve seen a mobile wood-fire pizza oven roaming the streets of Westchester, it hasn’t been your appetite’s imagination.
Village Social, a popular restaurant in Mount Kisco, put the wheels of its "PizzaVia Truck" in motion on Labor Day. Since then, its travels throughout the county have been a smooth – and delicious – ride.
PizzaVia serves freshly made wood-fired pizza on scene, wherever that may be. It has made appearances at the Mount Kisco Sidewalk Sale, Peekskill Brewery Harvest Hop, Lime Rock Park Raceway, John Jay Football Club Academy Kickoff and the Lewisboro Labor Day Soccer Tournament.
Village Co-owner John Cioffe said PizzaVia has received with “amazing feedback” everywhere it has made a pit stop.
“People love it,” he said. “Anytime we go to a public event, we get at least three people booking the truck for a private one.”
Cioffe, along with co-owners Joe Bueti and Anthony Luppino, envision the PizzaVia truck becoming a popular lunch item for local businesses. They hope corporations bring its services to their campuses for some “authentic Neapolitan pizza.”
“It would be a great lunch option for businesses with parking lots,” Bueti said. “As of right now we’re just doing public and private events, but that’s definitely something we want to branch out to moving forward.”
Even though an oven and kitchen are attached to the back of the truck, the Village Social owners made it clear that PizzaVia is “not a street food truck,” but rather a “portable wood oven.” Every pizza on its Village Social menu can be made just as easily in the confines of PizzaVia. Fan favorites such as the “4 Cheese” and “Coach Farm Goat Cheese” pies have both been made in off-site locations.
“Depending on the situation, we’ll have customers take one slice or order a whole pie,” Luppino said. “Every trip is a little bit different and caters to the crowd.”
Crowds can next expect to find PizzaVia at the Mount Kisco Columbus Day Fair and a wine tasting hosted by Leonard Park Wines & Spirits in Mount Kisco on Nov. 9 from 1 to 5 p.m.
