Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino and Whtie Plains Mayor Thomas Roach joined Robert Guerra, Simon Northeast regional vice president, in smashing tiles with hammers to kick off an eight-month renovation expected to cost the global real estate company millions.
Roach proclaimed Thursday "The Westchester Day in White Plains," noting, "When I walk in here, I say, 'What do you need to fix?' I understand this is an extremely competitive market."
Astorino said, "It's great to see how far The Westchester has come.''
The shopping center was amazing when it first opened in 1995, Astorino said: "It's amazing now. . . Let's make a date now for 20 years from now."
Construction will begin next month during off hours, so it will not disrupt shopping, Guerra said.
The multi-million dollar renovation project will include: new, spacious soft seating areas with charging stations for phones and computers; upgraded restrooms and modernized elevators; new tile and stone flooring on two retail levels and carpeting on the third level; improved signage; fresh landscaping; parking improvements including brighter lighting; a new concrete driveway; new tile floors in the valet parking lobby; and dazzling new holiday décor, according to Guerra.
“The Westchester has established a reputation as one of the region’s premier destinations for shopping, dining and entertainment,'' Guerra said. "These enhancements will create a more contemporary look for the center along with additional upgrades and amenities that will better fulfill the needs of our customers and visitors.”
