New Dessert Shop Brings Sweet Variety To Chappaqua

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. – Sherry Blockinger didn’t just want her store to be the first of its kind in Chappaqua, the Sherry B Dessert Studio owner wanted her concept to be unique to the world.

“I designed the concept myself and it was about what I wanted it to be,” Blockinger said. “I actually traveled all over the place – the U.S. and the world – looking for inspiration and what I wanted it to be. And I have to tell you, I didn’t find anything anywhere, so we said you know what? We’re just going to be unique and create it.”

Putting any one label on Sherry’s is difficult, as the shop sells a variety of items such as coffee, espresso, custom-blended soda, pastries, ice cream and more. Blockinger said the pastries, soda syrups and ice cream are made in-house from scratch.

Sherry B Dessert Studio was announced to take over the 65 King St. storefront in January and hoped for a summer opening. The store officially opened Friday – technically still in the summer season – but Blockinger said construction delayed the opening longer than she hoped.

"I think that’s typical. It happens,” she said. “You hit a road block and you solve the issue and you keep moving forward, and that’s what we did."

Blockinger, a Chappaqua resident, said she expected community excitement for the store to dwindle after the delays, but was pleasantly surprised to learn how wrong she was.

“To me, it’s amazing that energy kept up for so long,” she said. “But it really did get to the point where once it was in my hands, I was like I can’t be the one to delay. I got to get people in and welcome them in.”

The interior of the store has leather couches and wireless Internet for customers looking to hang out. Blockinger said there is also a demo kitchen in the back of the store that could be used for classes, guest chef demos and parties in the future.

“I just feel like it’s a very flexible and welcoming space, and that was the goal,” she said.
