CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. – Amanda Birch spent almost 20 years working as a beauty therapist in London and picking up some loyal clientele along the way. Now, with her new business, Birch is looking to offer Chappaqua residents the same treatment she has given to members of Britain’s Royal Family.
Birch moved to Chappaqua a little more than a year ago with her husband and just recently opened Beauty by Amanda Birch at her 286 Millwood Road home. Birch hoped to open her boutique spa earlier, but took time off after the birth of her daughter.
“I didn't want to do it half-heartedly, so now I’m organized and I’m going for it,” she said. “Basically, what I offer is facials, and that’s what I was doing in London. It’s just all about looking after the client. It’s completely tailor-making the facials to that person’s needs.”
Some of Birch’s most famous clients include members of the Royal Family. Without disclosing any names, Birch said she still maintains one client from the family. So far, Birch said, she is enjoying the transition from Buckingham Palace to Chappaqua.
“As I was meeting people and talking about what I did, I’ve gained clients from that. And now I’m just starting to get busier,” she said. “Obviously because I’m not on the street in Chappaqua, my business is really just word of mouth. So it’s a case of having people come and experiencing what I do and then talking about it.”
When looking for a new place overseas, Birch and her husband went apartment-hunting in Manhattan and Brooklyn before falling in love with Chappaqua.
“I’ve done the city thing living in London, and I just thought this would be a nice place to work, get to know people and be part of the community,” she said. “which it completely is all those things.”
Birch offers 90-minute bespoke facials for $180, 90-minute bespoke body treatments for $125, and eyebrow shapes for $30. There is a 25-percent off discount for first-time visitors through October. She can be contacted for appointments through her website.
