CARMEL, N.Y. -- Health Quest announced Thursday that James F. Caldas has been appointed president of Putnam Hospital Center.

Caldas, whose appointment was effective Monday, Feb. 24, has more than 25 years of experience at an executive level leading improvement in clinical quality, patient satisfaction, physician satisfaction, and employee engagement.

Most recently, Caldas was the executive vice president of Catholic Health Services of Long Island. In that role, he also served as president and chief executive officer of the Health Quest's Eastern Division, which included three acute-care hospitals with a combined bed capacity of 1,000.

At Med Star Health in Washington, D.C., Caldas served as a member of the senior executive team and held the position of president and chief executive officer of Washington Hospital Center, a 926-bed teaching hospital and the flagship of the system. Prior to Med Star, he served as the executive vice president and chief operation officer at Christiana Care Corporation in Wilmington, Del., leading day-to-day operations of a 1,090-bed health care system.

Caldas received his bachelor’s degree from St. Joseph’s College in Philadelphia, Pa. and holds master's degrees in business administration and public healths from Columbia University in New York City. “With Jim’s extensive experience and positive, proactive approach, he will be a great asset to the Health Quest System,” said Luke McGuinness, Health Quest's chief executive officer. “I am extremely pleased to have Jim as a member of our team.”
