Flying Pig Drops Chappaqua Train Station Proposal

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. – A proposal to bring a restaurant to the vacant Chappaqua Train Station space has been pulled off the table.

Former Flying Pig Chef Lesley Sutter and her representatives were interested in the space, but eventually walked away because they believed the town no longer wanted the project. 

“They just didn’t seem interested,” said Cheryl Bernstein, who worked with Sutter on the proposal.

Sutter first proposed her idea for a full-scale restaurant called Sutter’s Track 32 to occupy the space in May. Though the town expressed initial interest, Bernstein said, it would not commit to leasing the property to Sutter.

“We want the space, but we can’t do it without a lease,” Bernstein said. “I just couldn’t have the girls spend any more money.”

Town Planner Sabrina Charney Hull confirmed that Sutter is no longer pursuing the train station space. She said renovations for her proposed restaurant would have cost the town too much money.

“We are not renovating the building for a restaurant,” Hull said.

The town recently awarded a $31,050 contract for work on the train station, but Hull said it was for structural work, not renovations.

She said the town is still interested in bringing a tenant into the space once the structural work is completed. She did not rule out a restaurant eventually leasing it out.

“We will look at what can fill that space, but that’s down the road,” Hull said.
