CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. -- Did you ever think you'd see a hay ride on King Street?
The new Chappaqua-Millwood Chamber of Commerce is planning that and much more at Saturday's inaugural Fall Festival .
"We can't have the festival on a farm so why not bring the farm to us?" asked chamber executive director Linda Degelsmith.
The hay ride will start at Bell Middle School, circle the town and unload at Bell from noon to 5 p.m.
There also will be a petting zoo outside Kendall's OM Kitchen from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and a pumpkin patch at the gazebo where you can buy pumpkins, gourds, Indian corn, cornstalks, apple cider and donuts.
In addition, there will be face and nail painting, a photo booth, musical acts, bubble-blowing contest, an olympic-style obstacle course, bouncy castle, inflatable slide, cats for adoption and several raffles.
Senter Street will be closed to traffic to allow for bumper cars, a joust and activities sponsored by the fire department. Lower King Street will be open to traffic but not for parking to allow for local vendors' tables and booths.
The regular Saturday farmers market at St. Mary's Church will anchor the festival and include a homemade apple pie contest judged by Sherry B at 11:30 a.m.
All of the entertainment is free.
"All the rides and events have been generously sponsored by our local merchants for the community to enjoy" Degelsmith said.
Those merchants include ICD Contemporary Jewelry, Quaker Hill Tavern, Music in Chappaqua, Ted Holmes-Prudential Douglas Elliman Real Estate, Wee Zee World of "Yes I Can!", Get Reel Productions, King Street Restaurant and Bar, Houlihan Lawrence, Ann L. Herrero-Edward Jones and Shops at One King Street.
The festival won't be all fun and games. There will be several fundraising opportunities, too. Kendall's OM Kitchen will host a Harvest Time food drive, The InterFaith Council of Chappaqua will have sign-up sheets for its annual InterFaith Thanksgiving Ceremony and Salon 228 will offer pink hair extensions for a $10 donation to Pink Hair for Hope & Breast Cancer Research.
The festival is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
